I first met Martin on board HMS Belfast in the early days, at first I did not know how to take this large upright and powerful presence of this man. However, it did not take long to warm to this very talented man, who never ceased to amaze me with his quick witted cracks, his generosity, being first to buy a round,to give good advice and guidance in everything he knew. Yes, a powerful character in many guises, he knew the serious side of what we do. Martin would not suffer fools gladly but be the first to help and always with a smile. Martin was full of life full on, he was always up for a laugh and had good humour and I believe, lived and loved life to the full. I will never forget his snoring abilities which has never been surpassed or equalled, and even today I often chuckle of that night on board Belfast and the American Nurses incident!!
